Once upon a time, hotel schools were considered the choice for students with low grades and who did not want to continue studying. Today, hospitality schools are highly sought after.
There are some, for example, such as the Carlo Porta in Milan, which admit only those with an average grade of 7 and 8 in behaviour. Those who attend this institute find a job within a year of completing their studies. Where is it? Not only in restaurants, but also in hospitality facilities, food service and food distribution.
Those who are not placed usually continue their studies, perfecting themselves in the world of cooking in schools such as Alma di Colorno and Unisg di Pollenzo, or in schools dedicated to food science, in the faculty of Economics.
During the three-year period, the Carlo Porta Institute in Milan organizes training activities with external experts from the restaurant and hotel sector, in order to guide students’ choices. For those in the penultimate and last year of school, there are numerous meetings to present companies and the professional figures requested by them.
Finally, meetings are held to present the educational offer of the Universities with which there are historical ties (University of Milan – Catering sciences, Iulm, Catholic University of Milan – Tourism Sciences, Seg, University of Stenden, University of Gilon Les Roches) and post-diploma training institutions in the sector. Simulations of lessons are also carried out with methodologies used in universities.
After the two-year joint period, it is possible to follow the address food and wine – cooking, food and wine – pastry, dining and sales services, tourist reception. After the third year, the Carlo Porta also offers the possibility of carrying out alternation courses and internships with important companies and training courses of excellence with companies and institutions of high and international level.
